KLF selected 6 student-athletes from St. Vincent & the Grenadines to bring to Orlando, Florida for 2 weeks of basketball and learning. Read about their experience in their own words!
This was a day of learning, as Adonal held a group session with the kids and then went on to talk with the kids individually. We also gave the kids some spending money so they could pick up some shoes for school.
Jemmie: Well today I got up about 9:30 and ate breakfast. Before moving to the new hotel we had a meeting with Adonal Foyle. The meeting was about trust and that was very important for us.
Nemiah: He [Adonal] talked about how we feel about ourself and the camp and one thing that you like about the camp and two things that you do not like about the camp, and I did good. After that we checked out of the Rosen Center Hotel and checked into the Quality Inn International Hotel for the following week. When we got to the Quality Hotel I liked it all right but it was a little smaller than the Rosen Centre Hotel. After that we had our individual meetings with Adonal Foyle. After that we went shopping and I bought an Adidas to wear to school. After we had finished shopping we went to dinner at a nearby restaurant. I tried some new food that I have never eaten before.
Thanks to the Orlando Magic and YBOA, we took the kids to Universal Studios. The park even gave us express passes to skip the lines, and yes they got to try the new Harry Potter ride. The kids were also lucky to receive a complimentary dinner from SONIC!
Zanif: Ms. Valentine took us to “The Mummy” which was an inside roller coaster which was fun for the most part of it. It can be scary for this thrill ride goes backwards, frontwards, changing tracks, going upside down and they used real fire and it was really dark that you couldn’t see your own hands. There was this fall which was most exhilarating. It’s when the coaster is coming from the dark into a side downwards fall which is lit up in orange making you think you landing in lava. Yes, this ride was very exciting for me and for us.
Consolo: When I was at Busch Gardens, I said I will never go back on a roller coaster so I changed my mind.we went to Revenge of the Mummy a indoor roller coaster. It was so fun that we went one more time. After we finished there we went to the Hulk roller coaster. The best part was when it started speeding off - that was fun. On the Hulk you go in curls. After we finish there we went to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. It was like you were flying. It was fun.
Leandru: We then left and went on a ride that everyone said was a lot of fun “the Hulk.” We had express passes so we did not have to wait in a long line. When the ride started I was not scared and I chatted going up the ramp before the first drop. The coaster gave a sudden pull and we were going about 65 mph and into a drop which was spinning while dropping. We went into several loops and turns before the ride was over. When it was finished we were all a bit dizzy and I felt a little light. Shiyana and I also went to play a game of air hockey. She told me that I would lose and beat me severely but I guess she was wrong - I won the match 5-3.
Jemmie: Then we went to this new one called Harry Potter. It is the best thing ever, it was my favorite because it was Extraordinary you’re part of the most exhilarating entertainment ever created.
Zanif: On the way home, we went for dinner at Sonic, the number one store on the planet. I thank them for giving us our dinner free of charge and with no hesitation. We then came home and ate our dinner at the pool area. Their hamburgers taste excellent while their French fries were the best I’ve eaten so far.
Nemiah: After went to our meeting with Adonal Foyle. He talked about communication. He taught us the different ways of communicating with each other and some examples of it.
