The Athletics & Academics Island Youth Camps would not be what they are without the tireless work of all our volunteer camp staff based in the USA and St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Get better acquainted with our USA and Canada-based volunteers.

Adonal Foyle. Our fearless camp leader and the founder of KLF. Adonal's vision for the Camps is to show kids how importance it is to have a balance between sports and the classroom. As he says, "there cannot be one without the other!"
Bo Outlaw. When Adonal asked Bo to participate in the Camps, he didn't even hesitate. Although he was a first-time coach for the Athletics & Academics Camps, Bo fit right in, and didn't let the new country and culture phase him one bit. He was a real hit with the kids, and we hope he'll be back for more!
Clifford Ray. Cliff is a true believer in our Camps and the children of St. Vincent & the Grenadines. He has participated in each and every one of our camps since 2003, and is an awe-inspiring coach. We especially appreciate his knack with the little ones!
Courtney Lee. Courtney had a break out rookie year in the NBA and his success was paralled at the A & A Camps. Courtney worked all the learning stations from basketball basics to sports psychology and nutrition. He really helped us impress upon campers the importance of education in addition to athletic prowess.
Erika Ruiz. Erika made her rookie appearance at the A & A Camps with the distinction of being not just the youngest coach but also the only female basketball player in our ranks. A pointguard for St. Mary's College in California, Erike made a huge impression with Campers giving them an excellent model of a strong female athlete and college student. Read a newspaper interview on her Camp experience >
Glenroy Jones. We kept it in the "family" with Glenroy, who is Adonal's cousin and played basketball with him when they were growing up in the Grenadines. As a born & bred Vincentian, Glenroy has a true understanding of the challenges the children face in their everyday lives and special ability to connect with them.
Graham Betchart. Graham is our resident Sports Psychologist (until Adonal completes his Masters degree!) and runs a special session to help campers practice their focusing and concentration skills and help them understand the importance of setting goals. We started this session with Graham in 2006, and it continues to be one of our most important and popular topics.
Kamal Moummad. This was Kamal's second trip with the A & A Caribbean Camps and we are still amazed by his seemingly limitless energy. Kamal led the warmup session for the kids before the Camps started along with the basketball shooting station. He also was an integral part of counting and sorting CrocsTM, a seemingly thankless job, but so worth it when some of the kids who came barefoot got a pair of shoes.
Keon Weise. A trainer with the Orlando Magic, we asked Keon to design our first-ever sports medicine training session for physical education teachers and coaches. He rose to the challenge pulling together a 2 hour practical learning experience to give participants a solid grounding in the basics of sports medicine. Thanks to Keon, at least 30 coaches and PE teachers received this invaluable training.
Mackenzie Nowell. Mackenzie is a Surveillance Epidemiologist with the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta and was a perfect fit to serve as support in the HIV/AIDS awareness learning station at the Camps. She worked in partnership with a government social worker (Ms. Roselle Solomon) from the HIV/AIDS Secretariat as we wanted local involvement to ensure we complemented what kids were already learning in school.
Manuel Del Dago. A basketball coach in Vancouver, Canada, Manny found out about KLF and our Camps and would not rest until he found a way to join us. He mounted an impressive fundraising campaign to cover the cost of his travel and make a donation to KLF. At the very last minute, we were able to find a spot for him, and we were so glad that we did. He helped out in every way possible, from counting CrocsTM to assisting with the basketball drills.
Michael DeGrazia. Our A & A Camp Director since 2006, Mike coordinates all the basketball skills stations, and this year we even put him to work leading the rebounding station. Mike is a high school P.E. teacher and he also directs Adonal's Athletics and Academics Camps in Northern California.
Roy Byrd. A former Harlem Globetrotter, Roy Byrd has been with the Camps since our start in 2003. His easy charm and warm personality makes him a natural coach at our Camps and a real favorite with the kids. After Adonal, Byrd is probably the coach most remembered and loved by the kids, as he gives them at least a hundred and fifty percent of himself at each session.
Jay Yurkiewicz. Jay is an Orlando Magic season ticket holder and as he has gotten to know Adonal, he has also become a big fan of KLF's work. This was Jay's first visit to St. Vincent & the Grenadines and we put him to work assisting the coaches at their stations and making sure that they were hydrated.
Jennifer Sandy. Jennifer is another motivated Canadian fundraiser! Based in Montreal, she held a special event at her salon to offer her services to clients at a special rate and giving a portion of the proceeds to KLF. Jennifer didn't stop there, she flew down to St. Vincent to present the check to us personally, and of course we put her straight to work ensuring that the bookfair at each Camp ran smoothly and every child went home with a book that they loved.
Stephen Eriksen. Stephen is Adonal's Business Manager, and he ran the first three years of the Camps since helping develop them in 2003. He was an invaluable resource throughout the planning and the execution of the 2009 Camps. He was responsible for getting our staff to the islands and back home safely and was the time-keeper and Emcee during each Camp.
Brian Walker. Brian Walker is an artist in Atlanta. He was already in Canouan looking for artistic inspiration around the time of the Camps, and so he joined our team to document the Camp and make a documentary from the Camps and is interviewing children from the Camps to capture their experiences (present and past). Darrin Thurman. Darrin Thurman assisted with conducting the interviews for the official KLF Camp Video. He was also one of our "jack-of-all-trades," from hydrating coaches to escorting kids and more!
Shomari Smith. Shomari is the official photographer and videographer for the KLF Camps. He also made all the designs on the give-aways for the kids from the notebook covers to the frisbee graphic. This is the third year that Shomari has participated in the Camps and we love his work! View his website >
